What is the best way to paint the interior of my house and other painting related questions…..?

Also, it’s 2200 sq. feet? How much paint will I need????
Just bought a house. The previous owner was a tad obssessed with the makeover shows and painted every single room a different wild crazy color. The master bedroom is a dark deep burgundy with gold sponged over it. The layers are thick and I dont know what kind of issues I will have if I just layer it up with primer. So here are my questions (please answer all)….

1. Is primer the best way to cover it up?

2. Is it possible to have too many paint layers on a wall? Would I need to sand it down or something?

3. What kind of paint should I use? Flat, semi-glossy, besides sheen what’s the real difference?

4. Is it better to use the paint gun or a roller (I have access to both).

5. Do you have any tips or suggestions? Like adding spices to the paint to last longer or some crazy stuff like that.

Thank you so much!

    1. Is primer the best way to cover it up? Yes. Use Kilz. Maybe more than one coat if paint still shows through.

    2. Is it possible to have too many paint layers on a wall? Would I need to sand it down or something? No. But the darker the layers, the more coats of lighter paint you will need to apply to do a cover-up.

    3. What kind of paint should I use? Flat, semi-glossy, besides sheen what’s the real difference? Go for a brand that guarantees coverage. The finish is your preference. For example, I like semigloss in bath and kitchen and for all the trim. I like flat in hallways.

    4. Is it better to use the paint gun or a roller (I have access to both). I like a brush. It covers much better. Take your time.

    5. Do you have any tips or suggestions? Like adding spices to the paint to last longer or some crazy stuff like that. Each time you pour paint into the paint tray, cover the paint can snugly so that paint does not dry out or thicken. Keep your brushes clean. Have several on hand. Take your time.

I am taking a break from painting my closets right now and using up left over paint from the rest of the house.

    Hi,
the 2200 sq ft is the floor plan, you need to figure the square feet of walls & ceilings.
